Woman's Weekly: 19th June 1965
Women who could clearly remember the fashions of 1926 in 1965 must have been, at the very youngest, 50 when this was published. Oddly enough, I've just worked out that this group of women would have included my grandmother, which is something for me to ponder for the rest of the day.
No, it's not one of those digestive aids. Iron if anything slows things down! Just a multi-vit, although goodness knows how they incorporated a sizeable dose of protein.
Oh, the never-ending parade of euphemisms the advertising industry had for "use this product, it'll make you shit easier".
There must've been something about the fat-soaked food of the time that left an entire nation bunged up and suffering from a range of maladies that Bemax, cod liver oil by the spoonful, Bile Beans, syrup of figs and an untold number of other unguents, supplements and powders could instantly cure by giving you diarrhoea.
