Gypsy Creams

Licking the nuts off a large Neapolitan?

Woman's Weekly / 13th June 1969

I’m sorry. Humphrey Lyttelton said it, not me. Anyway, I finally found the Neapolitan Gaiety version of this rather fabulous series of ads.

Neapolitan Gaiety? Peach Delight? Cream? Happy endings? It’s almost as if there’s a hidden subtext that I’m missing somewhere.

The entire ad copy is so strange. Like they took random sentences out of a hat and slapped them together on the page.

However, I am pleased with the young boy on the right – pinkie up!

I’m wondering whether that oddly disconnected way of writing was common at the time, because some short features that I’ve read in my collection also use the same style. Perhaps they were too busy grooving to join sentences together in the ’60’s…

Amazingly, there was also a Lyons Maid ice-cream musical, with lyrics by Denis Norden.

“Little Bit of Eye-Tie Ice Cream”! Thanks, Dave, this looks hilarious!
