After Eights

Woman's Own: 15th July 1967

I'm trying to work out what the message of this ad is. I'm drawing a blank so far. Are they trying to tell women that buying After Eight mints will turn them into middle-class bores?

Graphician "But Sir, it's got nothing to do with After Eights!"
Customer "Don't care. Use this."

I witnessed similar situations when I was working for an advertising agency.

How do you fall on someone's mints 'like Atilla the Hun'? Has she ever seen Atilla devouring some after eights? Because THAT is something I'd pay to see...
