Aw. So many British children were taken into town to be dressed by Ladybird, Woolworths’ range of childrens’ clothing. Alas, no more: Woolworths was a high-profile victim of the recent recession, but the clothing (as well as the shop) survives online. I thought this charming advert was a nice tribute.

Ladybird was sold in department stores before it became an exclusive Woolworth brand – see how expensive the clothes were, you can probably get similar items for the same price in Primark now!
I used to wear nasty, itchy woollen Ladybird vests with cap sleeves when I was a child.

My God, I had that Dressing gown! – the blue one. It was lovely, with Ladybird buttons and everything.

Actually the pyjamas look familiar too. .

I also had a very similar blue dressing gown with a red toggle belt when I was a young boy – and I could swear it had red buttons in the shape of ladybirds.
I never knew if it was a hand-me-down, or indeed that I’d see it in illustrated in a 1960s magazine advert – worn by a girl.
